TSM graduates enter real world of action

TIMES NEWS NETWORK [ SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2003 02:05:03 AM ]

NEW DELHI: Walk the talk. Have a vision. Challenge everything.
Empower and motivate people. These are some of the leadership
lessons offered by Coca Cola India CEO Sanjiv Gupta while addressing
the 13th batch of students from The Times School of Marketing (TSM)
here on Friday.

Delivering the convocation address, Gupta welcomed TSM graduates to
the real world of action to a world of unlimited opportunity, heartbreaks
and stress. Gupta maintained that managers have to be aware of
changes happening around them and adapt themselves to survive. "If
you have to be a good manager, you have to be a true leader," said
Gupta, who shared his experiences on leadership.

Although an engineer, Gupta admitted that he learnt the practical art of
management during his innings at Hindustan Lever. Foremost in Gupta's
tips to TSM graduates is that true managers have to challenge
everything and think out of the box. He maintained that managers have
to have a clear vision and a blueprint of what they want to do and their
vision should be shared by the group they work with.
